Don't Take Me Home

In 1958, the Wales national football team qualified for the quarterfinals of the FIFA World Cup hosted in Sweden. In subsequent decades, the squad failed to advance past the qualifying rounds for major tournaments while other national sides made their mark, including the England team emerging victorious at the 1966 World Cup. In October 2015, under coach Chris Coleman, the Wales team qualified for the first time for the UEFA European Championship Finals in France. They were drawn in Group B alongside England, Russia and Slovakia and most commentators expected Wales - ranked 28th in the world - to fall at the first hurdle as the minnows of the group. Instead, the team pulled together and topped the group thanks to goals from Gareth Bale, Hal Robson-Kanu, Aaron Ramsey and Neil Taylor. Jonny Owen's documentary pays tribute to a summer when the smallest country in the history of the beautiful game advanced to the final rounds of a major tournament and performed with courage and distinction.
