Nominated for the 2017 Academy Award for Best Film In A Foreign Language, Tanna is the first feature film shot entirely in Vanuatu and is based on a true story from the 1980s. On the South Pacific island, violence breaks out between the Yakel tribe and the neighbouring Imedin clan. In order to broker peace and forge ties, the tribes agree to arranged marriages between two of their women. Wawa (Marie Wawa) is selected from the Yakel community as their sacrifice. Unfortunately, she is head over heels in love with Dain (Mungau Dain) from her own tribe and does not want to give him up for the sake of peace. Wawa and Dain wrestle with their feelings, knowing that if they defy the orders of the elders they will condemn the Yakel to brutal reprisals.
