A Silent Voice (Koe No Katachi)
Based on a popular manga comic, Naoko Yamada's heartfelt animated drama explores the consequences of bullying from the perspectives of the victim and the perpetrator. Deaf student Shoko Nishimiya (voiced by Saori Hayami) transfers to a new elementary school where she becomes the prime target of Shoya Ishida (Mayu Matsuoka), who invites his classmates to make fun of her hearing impairment. As the abuse continues, Shoya's fellow students turn on him and scold him for his lack of understanding and compassion. He does not speak to Shoko again. Having left school, Shoya (now voiced by Miyu Irino) is consumed by guilt and he resolves to seek out Shoko so he can apologise in person and perhaps atone for his sins.
