Sweet Dreams (Fai bei sogni)
Based on the novel Sweet Dreams, Little One by Massimo Gramellini, director Marco Bellocchio's character study explores grief and longing through the eyes of a son, who hasn't fully recovered from the loss of his beloved mother. Journalist Massimo (Valerio Mastrandrea) is brilliant at his job but is incapable of talking about the deep emotional wounds left by the death of his mother (Barbara Ronchi). The only time he seems to embrace the present and open the heart is when he visits his doctor, Elisa (Berenice Bejo), who possesses the same caring nature as his cherished parent. In a series of vignettes, Massimo remembers his idyllic childhood when he danced with his mother and snuggled up to her while they watched television together. He also remembers the pain when his emotionally cold father (Guido Caprino) brought a new woman into the family home to take care of him.
