Christine

Director Antonio Campos and screenwriter Craig Shilowich dramatise the final hours of television newscaster Christine Chubbock, who committed suicide live on air on July 15, 1974 during the early morning broadcast on Sarasota's WXLT-TV. The film focuses on the hours leading up to the shooting as Christine (Rebecca Hall) wrestles with depression. At home, she struggles to emotionally connect to her mother Peg (J. Smith-Cameron) and at work, she is tormented by her unrequited crush on handsome news anchor George Peter Ryan (Michael C. Hall) and by her editor Michael (Tracy Letts) and his choice of stories. As the pressure becomes unbearable, Christine arrives at the station unusually early and insists that she reads the news. "In keeping with Channel 40's policy of bringing you the latest in 'blood and guts', and in living colour, you are going to see another first - attempted suicide," she narrates to camera, producing a gun.
