Based on Aristophanes' classical Greek comedy Lysistrata, Chi-raq is a musical satire set in Chicago, which focuses on a group of resourceful women, who deny their men carnal pleasure in an effort to bring to an end the city's spirally gun culture. Demetrius Dupree (Nick Cannon) aka Chi-raq is a gang leader in the Englewood neighbourhood, who fuels the cycle of violence against his fierce rival, Sean Andrews (Wesley Snipes) aka Cyclops. During a shootout, an 11-year-old girl is caught in the crossfire and she dies from her injuries. Chi-raq's lover Lysistrata (Teyonah Parris) is horrified and she decides to withhold sex from her beau until he lays down his guns and declares a ceasefire. This act of defiance sends ripples across America and inspires other women to use their feminine wiles to force their men to change. However, Chi-raq is too proud to buckle to his girlfriend's demands and he continues the bloodthirsty feud with Cyclops.
