Formed in 1967 in Ann Arbor, Michigan in the midst of a counterculture revolution, The Stooges were a rock band fronted by Iggy Pop, whose aggressive performance style laid the groundwork for punk and alternative rock in subsequent decades. Their music fused rock with R&B, blues and free jazz and live performances frequently courted controversy as a result of Pop's stage antics such as exposing his privates to the crowd or smearing his bare chest with food products.
