Eighteen-year-old Sonita is a refugee from Afghanistan, who lives with other teenage girls in a shelter in Tehran. Her future is already mapped out by her family - they can sell her as a bride for 9000 dollars - but Sonita has other dreams. She yearns to be a famous rapper, who can change attitudes with her lyrical rhymes in a country that forbids women from singing. Documentary filmmaker Rokhsareh Ghaem Maghami charts Sonita's personal odyssey as the teenager criticises forced marriages through her music, making a rap video that vociferously advocates greater freedom for young women in Iran.
