The 1980 martial arts film Kickboxer solidified Jean-Claude Van Damme's burgeoning career as an action hero and inspired numerous sequels. This revamp of the franchise co-stars the Belgian actor in a supporting role as he passes the mantle to a new generation of bare-knuckle brawlers. Eric Sloane (Darren Shahlavi) wins the World Karate Championship and he is persuaded by a fight promoter called Marcia (Gina Carano) to travel to Thailand to take part in a highly lucrative underground bout. His brother Kurt (Alain Moussi) attempts to dissuade Eric from leaving, but he is seduced by the prospect of a big payday. Kurt eventually travels to Thailand where he witnesses his brother's death at the hands of opponent Tong Po (Dave Batista). Local police appear reluctant to pursue the matter and Marcia swats away Kurt's protestations by saying that Eric took part in the fight of his own free will. Authorities compel Kurt to leave the country, but he decides to stay and enlists the help of his brother's Muay Thai trainer, Master Durand (Van Damme), to exact bone-crunching revenge.
