Batman: The Killing Joke
Directed by Sam Liu, Batman: The Killing Joke is an animated drama based on Alan Moore's 1988 graphic novel of the same title, which traces the rise of the Joker (voiced by Mark Hamill) from his early days as an engineer and struggling stand-up comic. The Machiavellian figure is disfigured when a robbery at his former place of employment - a chemical plant - goes tragically wrong and he falls into the facility's waste system. Reborn as the Joker, the arch-villain runs amok in Gotham and terrorises Commissioner James Gordon (Ray Wise) and his plucky daughter, Barbara (Tara Strong), aka Batgirl. Batman (Kevin Conroy) launches a daring rescue mission, which leads to an amusement park where the caped crusader faces the Joker in the aptly named funhouse.
