The Hard Stop
On August 4, 2011, Mark Duggan was shot and killed by police in Tottenham. His death lit the fuse on violent riots in London and other cities. Documentary filmmaker George Amponsah spent more than two years on Broadwater Farm in Tottenham, where Duggan grew up, capturing the aftermath of the killing through the eyes of family and friends as they attempted to come to terms with their loss in the eye of a media storm. Two of Duggan's best friends, Marcus Knox and Kurtis Henville, offer painful insights to the discrimination they face and the impact of the shooting on the local community. These testimonies are juxtaposed with news coverage and other interviews, building up an emotionally raw portrait of a family in distress and a neighbourhood at odds with a Metropolitan Police force that is supposed to protect them.
