Sixty five-year-old folk singer and activist Narayan Kamble (Vira Sathidar) has long been a thorn in the side of the Indian government, inciting rebellion with his forceful compositions, which he performs on the street backed by a troupe of musicians. He is arrested on suspicion of performing an original song in a Mumbai slum, which urged sewer workers to commit suicide. Judge Sadavarte (Pradeep Joshi) presides over the protracted trial, hearing arguments from public prosecutor Nutan (Geetanjali Kulkarni), who fully expects a guilty verdict, and idealistic defence lawyer Vinay Vora (Vivek Gomber), who wants to make sure that justice is served. Narayan sits silently in the courtroom, listening intently as his fate hangs in the balance and he faces the possibility of a 20-year prison sentence.
