Meru
Co-directed by Jimmy Chin and Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi, Meru is a breathtaking documentary filmed on the titular peak in the Himalayas. Shark's Fin on Mount Meru is the ultimate prize for big-wall climbers. Over the past 30 years, numerous elite climbing teams have tried and failed to navigate the deadly 21,000ft route. The film follows good friends Conrad Anker, Renan Ozturk and Chin, who pit themselves against Mother Nature and quickly learn that they are at the mercy of the elements. The three men chase the impossible dream with dwindling supplies, encountering sub-zero temperatures and raging snowstorms as they inch tantalisingly close to the summit and glory. One setback after another tests the climbers' resolve and inner strength, forcing Anker, Ozturk and Chin to rely on each other more than ever to conquer their fears.
