Miss Julie
Liv Ullmann directs this latest screen version of Strindberg's erotically charged battle of the sexes across the social divide, which was filmed on location at Castle Coole in County Fermanagh. Miss Julie (Jessica Chastain) is the daughter of a wealthy aristocrat in late 19th century Ireland. It is Midsummer's night and free spirit Miss Julie prowls the corridors of her home, smarting from the recent departure of her fiance. She engages in a flirtatious battle of wills with manservant John (Colin Farrell), who wishes to rise above his station as quickly as possible. He is engaged to the house's cook, Kathleen (Samantha Morton), who does know her place. The power struggle between Miss Julie and John plays out as a series of bruising verbal exchanges and smouldering glances.
