Midnight Cowboy
In 1970, Midnight Cowboy became the first X-rated film to win Best Picture at the Academy Awards, collecting the top prize along with golden statuettes for Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay. To mark the 50th anniversary of John Schlesinger's gritty drama set in late 1960s New York, a sparkling digital 4K restoration struts into selected cinemas. Texan dreamer Joe Buck (Jon Voight) moves to New York with grand visions of becoming a successful male hustler. He quickly learns the harsh rules of the city and is evicted from his hotel room. As he wanders the streets of Manhattan with just the clothes on his back, Joe befriends gravely-ill conman Ratso (Dustin Hoffman), who offers him a place to stay in a condemned building. They formalise an unconventional business agreement to cater to the whims of New York's wealthy and attention-starved women.
