My Neighbour Totoro (Tonari no Totoro)
A 25th anniversary re-release of the Japanese animated fantasy, which brought Studio Ghibli and director Hayao Miyazaki to worldwide attention. Satsuki (voiced by Noriko Hidaka) and her sister Mei (Chika Sakamoto) move into an old house in 1950s Tokyo with their father, university professor Tatsuo Kusukabe (Shigesato Itoi), whose wife Yasuko (Sumi Shimamoto) is recovering from serious illness. The children are delighted to find that tiny dust creatures inhabit their new home, which are visible when the girls move between darkness and light. Mei explores the property and stumbles into a magical briar patch, where she befriends a rabbit-like spirit, which she christens Totoro (Hitoshi Takagi). When the girl tells her family about her new friend, Tatsuo tells his daughter that Totoro is the enchanted keeper of the forest and he will return to Mei. Sure enough the spirit visits Mei during a torrential downpour and reveals himself also to a delighted Satsuki.
