Luckless performance artist Christine and divorced shoe salesman Richard meet by chance one afternoon over the insoles and fall in love. While Christine is not afraid to show her true emotions, Richard is far more cautious, having been hurt before. He also has to consider the feelings of his teenage son Peter and six-year-old Robby. Meanwhile, the older boy is experimenting sexually with two local girls and the younger lad engages in a surreal Internet sex chat-room conversation with a stranger.
