Down House - Home of Charles Darwin
See the home of one of the world's greatest scientists, Charles Darwin. It was from his study in Down House that Darwin worked on his most famous and controversial work, 'On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection' in 1859. On the ground floor, the Drawing Room, the Dining Room, the Billiard Room and the Study have been furnished and decorated to reflect the domestic life of the family. An interactive exhibition on the first floor captures the essence of Darwin's life and work. The 'sand-walk' or 'thinking path' which Darwin walked daily can still be followed in the garden.
