Hereford Cathedral
Hereford's beautiful Romanesque Cathedral dates from 676, and contains the famous Mappa Mundi & Chained Library in the New Library Building, winner of the Royal Fine Art Commission's 'Building of the Year 1997'. The interpretative exhibition uses models, orginal artefacts and the latest interactive computer technology.

Cathedral daily 08.00-18.00. Mappa Mundi & Chained Library Exhibition Easter-Oct Mon-Sat 10.00-16.15, Sun 11.00-15.15. Oct-Easter: Mon-Sat 11.00-15.15. The Mappa Mundi & Chained Library will be closed 11-24 Jan for cleaning, and 21-28 July to install the Internation Mappa Mundi Exhibition

Standing on the banks of the River Wye, Hereford Cathedral occupies a site on which similar buildings have stood since Saxon times. The present building contains fine examples of architecture from Norman times up to the present day, including the restored Shrine of St Thomas Of Hereford.
