Seaford Museum of Local History
Seaford Museum is housed in the 200 year old Martello Tower no.74 on the eastern end of Seaford beach. It has a deceptive 5,000 square feet of display area including the roof with cannon, entrance floor with museum shop, the lower magazine floor of the tower and the covered dry moat area.
Not only does it record Seaford's long history from its days as a Cinque Port but also appeals to all age groups with displays including shops, tableaux and many items from pre-historic times to the present day. These include fascinating collections of domestic appliances and office machinery covering the first half of the 20th century.
The Museum is run entirely by volunteers of the Seaford Museum and Heritage Society and has limited opening times due to the shortage of stewards. During the winter, opening is only on Sundays and bank holidays (except Christmas day).
The Museum reference archives and the register of Seaford houses may be consulted by appointment. Group visits from schools or adult groups are welcomed but must be pre-booked.
