Cosi Fan Tutte - Show Information

Ferrando and Guilielmo bet Don Alfonso that their fiancs are faithful. They try to prove this by dressing up as two Albanian suitors and gaining the love of their fiancs.

Two men, who are engaged to be married to two sisters, claim that their brides-to-be are and will remain faithful to the men they intend to marry. A friend places a bet that the women are not as faithful as the men think. He vows to prove within a twenty-four hour period that the women will reveal that they will consider other men.

The two engaged men pretend to be called off to war suddenly. After the men are gone, supposedly off to war, one of the two sisters cries about her lonely state. The maid of the sisters urges them to forget the men they were going to marry and find new lovers.

The two men whom the women thought went off to war returned but were dressed as Albanian men so they would not be recognized. They woo the women who give them personal gifts that the men they were engaged to marry had given them.

The surprise ending is at a wedding where the girls learn the truth about the Albanian men and the men they were engaged to marry.

One of the meanings of the title of this opera is "all women are like that". This opera is quite an engaging comedy.
