The Barber of Seville - Show InformationCount Almaviva is in love with Rosina but she is currently staying with Dr. Bartolo, who desires to marry her. This opera has been so popular as to have been parodied a number of times. It is based on a work by French writer Beaumarchais, a story with the same title. Count Almaviva, disguised as a poor student named Lindoro, joins a group serenading Rosina. The others in the group were actually hired by Almaviva to join the singing and then to disappear at his signal. Figaro, a former servant of Count Almaviva, recommends that the Count disguise himself as a drunken soldier in order to be invited into Rosina's home. Rosina writes a letter to Lindoro, whom she does not recognize as the Count. Count Almaviva manages to get inside the house by pretending to be a drunken soldier. While there, he gives a letter to Rosina. Elements of great interest in this opera include deceptive disguises, jealousy, and bribery. The love story is superbly well-written, a good choice for great entertainment.
