Stomp - Show Information

A unique fusion of percusion, movement and comedy; STOMP transforms everyday junk and clutter into a source of infectious rhythm.

STOMP is a movement, of bodies, objects, sounds - even abstract ideas. But what makes it so appealing is that the cast uses everyday objects, but in non-traditional ways.

There's no speech, no dialogue, not even a plot.

So why go and see STOMP? Well, have you ever composed a symphony using only matchbooks as instruments? Or created a dance routine based around sweeping? You may have done this a little, but get a group of rhythmically gifted, extremely coordinated bodies with definitive personalities, and you have the makings for STOMP. Stomp takes the everyday sounds of pipes and brooms, lighters and garbage pail lids, and creates the extraordinary.

The British theatrical sensation, Stomp is 100 minutes of pure theatricality in which a cast of 8 possessed performers use boots, bins, brooms, garbage, zippo lighters, plumber's plungers and everything including the kitchen sink to hammer out a pulsating, rhythmic, witty symphony which ranges in mood and tone from the frenzied to the ethereal.

A unique fusion of percusion, movement and comedy; STOMP transforms the junk and clutter of urban life into a source of infectious rhythm which is explosive, provocative and utterly irresistible.

You're mistaken if you look for a hidden message in Stomp. There are no political connotations, no pretentious techniques, and no dialogue to misconstrue. Instead, you're bombarded by noises that you usually try to block out. Stomp takes the everyday sounds of pipes and brooms, lighters and garbage pail lids, and creates the extraordinary.

Created in 1991 by Luke Creswell & Steve McNicholas, STOMP has played to 8 million people in 31 countries. The show is currently enjoying its ninth year of a continuous off-Broadway run and has two companies constantly touring the US.

"Much of the appeal is from the pleasure of invention... and the dexterity, precision and energy of the performers is engaging and disconcertingly infectious."
The Financial Times

"This glorious act without words, in which a company of eight throw themselves body and soul into creating rhythms of every complexity and volume using the most basic found objects (brooms, cigarette-lighters, dustbins and oildrums) is an uplifting hymn to the art of making the most of minimalist means."
The Daily Telegraph
