In the 10 years since Jane McDonald first came to public recognition, captivating audiences with her Yorkshire charm on the BBC documentary series The Cruise ('Return To The Cruise') on BBC 2 for a week from August 8th), she has sold hundreds of thousands of albums, toured every inch of the country, earned herself a place in the Guinness Book of Records (for being the first artist to top the album charts without a prior release), performed for Royalty and also scooped Yorkshire Woman of the Year. She is also now a regular on ITV's Loose Women, her face familiar to millions, and is, in effect, nothing less than a national treasure. No small leap for someone who never even aimed to progress out of the northern cabaret circuit that she effortlessly dominated in her early years.
