About Piccadilly Theatre

Angela Lansbury, Evelyn Laye, Margaret Rutherford, Uta Hagen, Arthur Hill, Delores Gray, and Henry Fonda have all performed in this gigantic theatre over the years. Although seating has been reduced, it is a huge place to enjoy live theatre.

It was not always a venue for live theatre. Al Jolson’s The Singing Fool was the first talkie to be shown in Britain and was shown here. The theatre showed talkies for another year or so after Jolson’s work. The theatre then returned to live theatre performances.

Since the theatre is not easily seen from a major road, it has a lot of short runs. People are not as aware of this theatre as they are of some others.

The theater opened in April, 1928, showing Jerome Kern’s “Blue Eyes”.
