Serving Sheffield's Community
One of Sheffield's best kept secrets is the villagey feel despite its size; there is a strong sense of community and people are very friendly.
Community EventsThere are many community events in Sheffield all the time, from organised festivals to small jumble sales.Every October there is the Off the Shelf Literature Festival with readings, workshops, children's events and exhibitions across the city. In previous years celebrities included Michael Palin, Jeremy Paxman, and Nick Hornby. In June-July, there is the Children's Festival, a big festival of arts and culture performed by Sheffield children. There is also Music In the Sun at Don Valley Grass Bowl which mixes top pop acts with local bands. Local communities also hold there own festivals, there is Broomhill Festival, (a celebration when the students have gone!), Heeley, Sharrow and Broomhall to name a few. |
