Active SportSheffield's outstanding facilities mean it is possible to participate in almost any sport, from ski-ing to climbing. Sheffield Ski Village is Europe's largest all-season artificial ski resort, where you can ski, snow-board and toboggan. It has 8 pistes and 2 nursery slopes. There is also the Penguin Park, the Snowflex Fun Park and the Ski and Snowboard Water Jump.  The Olympic swimming pool at Ponds Forge offers lane swimming, a leisure pool with slides and wave machine, sauna and health suite, and a fully equipped fitness suite. The Hillsborough Leisure Centre provides alternative family swimming facilities. Climbing is popular with such easy access to the Peaks. There are good climbing centres in The Edge and The Foundry, indoor and outdoor instruction is available at both. There is a Watersports Centre in Rother Valley with all equipment available for hire, and instruction available. The Graves Tennis and Leisure Centre has indoor and outdoor courts (floodlit) available for hire all year. Sheffield also has an ice rink and several bowling alleys. |
