George HotelLocal AttractionsBlue-John Cavern & MineA remarkable example of a water-worn cave, over a third of a mile long, with chambers 200ft high. It contains 8 of the 14 veins of Blue John stone, and has been the major source of this unique form of fluorspar for nearly 300 years. Distance: 5.36 Miles Peak Cavern Peak cavern is One of the most spectacular natural limestone caves in the Peak District, with an electrically-lit underground walk of about half a mile. Ropes have been made for over 500 years in the 'Grand Entrance Hall', and traces of a row of cottages and the ruins of Peveril Castle can be seen along the riverside walk. The Cavern has the largest natural cave entrance in Britain and deeper into the cavern you can hear the source of the river Styx in a chamber known as the Devil's Cellar.
