George Hotel, The 
 | Opposite the railway station, in central Huddersfield, this Victorian railway hotel offers free parking and is known around the world as the birthplace of Rugby League. Built in 1851, the George Hotel has been carefully preserved as a Grade II listed building. In 1895 it hosted the meeting that founded Rugby League. The hotel houses the UK's only Rugby League heritage museum. All of the en suite rooms have TVs, tea/coffee, telephones, hairdryers and ironing facilities. The hotel also has a traditional lounge, The Founders Bar and St George's Restaurant. On the town's main square, the hotel is less than a mile (1.6 km) from Galpharm Stadium, home to Huddersfield Giants (rugby) and Huddersfield Town (football).
