"No surprise in the writer, no surprise in the reader." - Robert Frost.
A poem may be accurate and deeply felt, but unless there is an element of surprise it won't lift off the page and live. This workshop is a chance to think about the writing process and experiment with different ways of catching ourselves by surprise and revealing truths we didn't know we knew. There will be time to look at some published poems as well as writing and talking about our own.
Jean Sprackland has published three collections of poetry. Her last collection Tilt, won the Costa poetry Award in 2007. She has extensive experience in poetry and education and is currently Education Manager for the Poetry Archive, and has worked on a number of education projects for the Poetry Society. She tutors regularly for the Poetry School and the Arvon Foundation. |
