The Horse of the Year Show, or HOYS as it is called, is an annual event sponsored by Equestrian Surfaces, organised by Grandstand Media Ltd., staged at the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) in Birmingham, and has been running ever since the very first Horse of the Year Show in 1949. The Horse of the Year Show is the world's most famous horse show, and it consists of traditional displays, heritage and original entertainment. Britain's greatest indoor equestrian event, the Horse of the Year Show attracts top names and celebrities from around the globe, who return year after year.
The Horse of the Year Show is the climax of the national Show Jumping and Showing seasons. There are 150,000 entries countrywide to equestrian shows, all hoping to get to the 'Show of Champions'. The Horse of the Year Show takes place in 2 arenas, 1,500 horses, 1,400 competitors and with a huge variety of shopping in an all new 8,000 square meter Retail Village with more than 250 trade stands. Altogether, 50 acres of Birmingham's NEC Arena is transformed into a horse lover's paradise at the Horse of the Year Show. There are more than 120 hours of shows over 5 days, making an event where there is something for everyone offered at the Horse of the Year Show, irrespective of age or equine interest.
Away from all the activity in the 2 arenas, visitors who love shopping can enjoy the new spacious Retail Village which will be open for more than 12 hours every day. The Retail Village will be selling all the latest equestrian fashions and everything you could imagine with any connection to horses.
For the visitors who want to see the horses, for example those wanting to see all the different breeds, there is an Interactive Feature Area in the Pavilion, which is very popular and full of information. At the Horse of the Year Show, there is really so much for the visitors, that you will be able to fill hours with entertainment for all to enjoy.
