Starsailor released their debut single "Fever," in February 2001 and as a "Britain best new band," they have continued the rich lineage of Travis, Coldplay, and the others. Formed by music students James Walsh(vocal/guitar), James Stelfox(bass), and Ben Byrne(drums). The band went through several guitar heavy embryonic lineups before the arrival of Barry Westhead(keyboards) to cement their sound.
They played their first London Show at the Heavenly Social in April 2000. "Coming Down," "Fever," and "Love Is Here" as a demo and tape containing the tracks at the same time and began to circulating rapidly around the music industry. By the summer time, there was a queue of record companies to sign the nascent band, and EMI won the race for their signature.
After spending January 2001 on NME-sponsored tour with JJ72 and Amen, Starsailor has released their debut single, "Fever," to unanimous critical praise. As the single was released, starsailor went to Wales to record their debut album. They re-emerged in June to begin a summer of festival appearances between American tour supporting Doves and a couple of headline dates of their own.
They've come through the highs and the lows, the limelight and the shadows, the self-belief and the doubt, to produce their finest set of songs to date. Honest, furious, impassioned and, like the man said, urgent. Old hands? More like first-timers.
