Cancelling a self catering holiday

Please note that holiday cottage owners and self catering accommodation booking agencies have their own rules about cancellations and refunds. Please refer to their own terms and conditions. This page can only provide a guideline of what normally happens.

In the event that you have to cancel your self catering holiday, the holiday cottage owner or self catering accommodation booking agency will try to re-let the holiday cottages or self catering accommodation. If it is re-let, monies received by the holiday cottage owner or self catering accommodation booking agency for the re-let holiday, less the deposit (usually one third of the rental price), booking fee and any 'extras' already paid by the holidaymaker, will be refunded to the holidaymaker. This may be after the re-let holiday has taken place so don't expect a refund immediately after cancellation. If they are unable to re-let, all monies paid will be forfeited to the holiday cottage owner or self catering accommodation booking agency.

Should you have to cancel your holiday for any reason, first telephone/e-mail the holiday cottage owner or self catering accommodation booking agency. You could also confirm, in writing, and send by Recorded Delivery, clearly stating the reason for cancellation.

We recommend that you take out holiday cancellation insurance if you have not taken a holiday insurance or if your holiday insurance does not cover cancellation of UK holiday accommodation.
