Old Stables, The
Barnacre Cottages were the first gold award winning, five-star, self-catering holiday cottages in Lancashire in an area designated of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the Forest of Bowland. Created from the old stone buildings of an 18th century farmhouse..
Situated down a quiet country lane, up a long driveway and in an elevated position with great views across the countryside to the coast, including Blackpool Tower in the distance and even the Isle of Man on a clear day.
We have our own 14 acres of fields surrounded by woodland. With a variety of visiting wildlife and birds including pheasants, buzzards, hares and deer.
Child friendly location, play area has swings, slide, playhouse, fort and climbing frame.
Plus all weather doubles tennis court.
A stable block with our pony Fluff. Free ranging pet chickens and egg collecting, plus around Easter time, we have pet lambs for bottle feeding.
As reflected by its name, the Old Stables was where the horses were kept many years ago. This large luxury 5* Gold cottage sleeps 13 in 6 bedrooms, two are on the ground floor, together with a seperate shower room and therefore suitable for guests who would have difficulty in climbing stairs.. The cottage is ideal for family gatherings or small groups of friends.
The ground floor is huge, the area is an open plan style kitchen / living / dining / conservatory area. Warmed constantly by the gleaming pewter Aga stove.,in the magnificent, fully equipped Mark Wilkinson designer oak kitchen.
The living area has comfy sofas and a cosy woodburning fire for colder days. Sky television is provided, plus free wifi..
Off the hallway is a bootroom for hanging coats and storing shoes and walking boots. Separate laundry room with washing machine and tumble dryer. There is also an additional shower room with basin, wc and shower.
Upstairs are four attractive bedrooms. The double bedroom has an en-suite shower room. There are two twin-bedded rooms and a family room with a double and a single bed.
Leading from the kitchen area is a conservatory with french doors opening out to a large private garden for the sole use of the Old Stables. An attractive pergola with garden seating is an ideal place for outdoor dining, bbqs and picnics.
There is an additional seperate enclosed paved garden which is particularly suitable for young children.
For guests who like walking, we have a great variety of walks from our door. The nearest village Scorton, with a couple of eating places and the pub, is a 35 minute walk. A stroll along the river takes you to Garstang or the famous Nicky Nook and Grizedale Valley walk.
Good choice of quality nearby restaurants and shops with local produce .
Lots of nearby activities, country fairs and festivals, places to visit. Busy Blackpool with the beach, roller coasters and the illuminations along the promenade in autumn.
Further afield, Manchester, Liverpool, the Lake District and Yorkshire Dal
