Joy's Cottage built at the end of the 17th Century stands at the end of a small group of houses, adjacent to our own, 1 mile south of Coniston on the west side of the lake. There are fine views from the garden over fields to Coniston Water and across the lake to Brantwood, John Ruskin's home. The cottage is ideally placed for exploring the Coniston fells with nearby paths leading to Walna Scar, Coniston Old Man and Wetherlam; to the lake shore and Tarn Hows. Joy's Cottage is comfortably furnished for 4 guests; with an open fire (coal and logs provided) background night-store heating and double-glazing throughout. There are 2 bedrooms; a twin and a double upstairs with linen provided; downstairs there is a sitting room, kitchen/dining room and bathroom with shower over the bath. Drying facilities with washing machine and tumble dryer are in a separate outhouse. The large gated garden with patio seating enjoys panoramic views-as well as the morning sun!-and also provides safe parking for 2 cars and for children to play. Coniston village is well served with shops, cafes and pubs; a Post Office, Bank, Petrol Station and an excellent Museum. The Ship Inn is only half a mile away, within easy walking distance along the old railway line and provides evening meals. The beautifully restored steam yacht Gondola sails from April to October but the Coniston Launch provides a regular service on the lake throughout the year. Joy's Cottage welcomes visitors all the year round to this quieter corner of The Lakes; for weeks (Friday changeover) or short breaks. There are taxis, buses and hire cars at Windermere Station for those travelling by train. For those with their own boat the facilities of Coniston Sailing Club are nearby where temporary membership can be arranged. Unfortunately pets are not accepted.
