In Designated National Scenic Area, detached 4 star self catering cottage in a stunning location, with private beach access, located in the village of Melvaig near Gairloch.
Accommodating up to 4 people,Rona overlooks the sea and the islands of Skye, Harris and Lewis, giving opportunity to see the breathtaking sunsets in the summer.Furnished and equipped to a high standard, the large lounge/dining room has picture windows to the sea and surrounding countryside. Satellite freeview TV, DVD, radio/CD/cassette player and payphone. Good supply of books plus some films and games.We provide lots of information regarding walks and places of interest to visit.
The fitted kitchen has oven and hob, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, microwave, washer and tumble dryer. The two comfortable bedrooms, 1 double and one twin room, both have fitted wardrobes and a hairdryer is supplied. The fully tiled bathroom has a separate walk-in shower. Two porches, front and rear, offer ample hanging space. Oil central heating, enclosed garden with parking for up to 2 cars.Internet access available on request at an extra charge.
Melvaig has a jetty for launching boats and the nearby Melvaig Inn is renowned for good food; open 6 days and evenings in the season.
Gairloch, which has all services including garage, shops, restaurants etc. is just 20 minutes drive away on a quiet scenic road.
Wildlife sightings, sometimes seen from the cottage, include basking sharks, minke whales, fin whales, dolphins and porpoise, seals,otters,sea eagles and a wide variety of garden and sea birds.
The area’s attractions include whale-watching and marine life trips, including visits to the puffin colonies on the Shiant Islands. Salmon, sea trout, brown trout, pike and sea fishing.
Bird watching, falconry courses, a golf course and pony trekking. Also, boat trips on Loch Maree to view Viking Graves, bike hire, deer stalking, a deer museum, hill walking/ climbing, sea kayaking, Leisure Centre, Heritage Museum, swimming pool and Inverewe Gardens to name but a few. Visits to the Isle of Lewis are avalable via the ferry at Ullapool.
The area is perfect for bird-watching at any time of year and an amazing location for star-gazing in the winter months. There are a wide variety of low level and high level walks and mountain walks, plus beautiful sandy beaches to explore. The Beinn Eighe Nature Reserve and the Torridon mountains are just a short drive away.
