Harbourside Hideaway
Romantic 16th Century harbourside cottage, Harbourside Hideaway is Grade II Listed with many original features including log burners, beams, exposed stone walls, hand polished planked floors and exposed original 400 year old crux roof timbers. Also offering lovely garden with barbeque area.
Harbourside Hideaway is a 400 year old, Grade II listed spacious cottage, only a few paces from the harbour and offering luxurious accommodation, exceptionally furnished to a high standard. This romantic hideaway holds a tremendous amount of history within its thick stone walls and historic beams. A beautiful harbour is to be found close by, which has been a working harbour certainly since the 1300's and probably before that.
Polperro is thought to mean 'the mouth of the River Pol', from the small stream, which runs through the village. Polperro nestles in a valley with hills on three sides. The village is famously known for its share of smuggling, influenced greatly by Zephaniah Job, who organised lawyers for smugglers who were caught and sent money for those in prison. He was also adviser, banker and accountant to many. There is much to do and see on a visit - The Model Village, The Museum of Smuggling, the Shell House which is decorated with shells (a local man who decorated the house as a hobby) created a tourist attraction. Spectacular coastal walks along the cliff tops lead to Talland Bay, Looe and more.
Harbourside Hideaway sitting room has been tastefully restored over the years, with no less than three complete fire places having been removed to reveal the original stone fireplace with bread oven. A huge log burner is now sited in the fireplace, so you can sit backin front of a roaring logfire, with a relaxing glass of wine. We have ensured guests feel they are in complete luxury with two large full size sofabeds, providing the ultimate in comfort from the top end of the range available. The fitted hand made kitchen is of a very high standard, with built in hob, oven, dishwasher & fridge, as well as a washing machine. The double bedroom has exposed stone walls, hand polished planked floor, original stone fireplace (now sealed off), beams and vaulted ceiling. The twin room also has exposed stone walls, hand polished planked floors, beams, vaulted ceiling and the original 400 year old crux roof timbers. Both rooms are furnished with antique & country style furniture and Victorian style beds, all having luxurious mattress's with colour co-ordinated linen provided. The twin room also has a galleried single bedroom area.
