This most attractive South Devon holiday home is perfect for nature lovers, bird watchers, artists, walkers and strollers. If peace and natural beauty appeal to you come and share our wonderful property - whatever the season. This warm and comfortable property is ideal for winter breaks.  Were Down enjoys an exceptionally beautiful and peaceful location. Secluded but not remote, the house is set on a hillside amongst 12 acres of mixed woodland overlooking the creek leading to the delightful River Avon renowned for its beauty and bird life. There is access on foot via private paths to the Avon Estuary Walk and Bigbury Golf Club and Course is a short distance for that essential game of golf, with the popular South Devon beaches of Bigbury on Sea a short drive away.   Were Down, a much loved family home, has been divided to provide separate, self-contained accommodation for visitors.

Accommodation:

Entrance hall. Large sitting/dining room with open fireplace housing Clearview woodburning stove, comfortable seating, large dining table and chairs and TV/DVD. French window to raised terrace overlooking the Avon valley. Archway to fitted kitchen/breakfast room with cooker (gas hob and electric oven), microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, breakfast table and chairs. Shower room with shower, basin and WC. Washing machine (drying by arrangement with owner). Upstairs: Large bedroom with a fantastic view over the creek and twin 3ft beds. One double bedroom (4ft 6in bed), dual aspect with basin. Further twin bedroom with 3ft single beds.  Bathroom with bath (shower attachment), basin and WC.

Outside:

Raised terrace (not enclosed), perfect for eating al-fresco at large picnic table or just for sitting out. Freedom to wander in large garden below the house. Grounds also include a fenced hidden garden with unfenced pond.

Parking: Ample parking beside property with room for boats and bikes.

  • Local facilities: Bigbury Bay and Burgh Island with sandy beaches only 3.5 miles. Golf: Bigbury Golf Course 2 miles. Fabulous short  walks on woodland paths and around Avon estuary. Good pubs and eating places close by, including the well known Oyster Shack (booking adviseable). Shop Holywell Stores at St. Ann's Chapel is a brilliant local shop.
