7 Front Street, Daddry Shield is a traditional dales stone built cottage in Weardale. One of a small row of cottages in the hamlet of Daddry Shield, number 7 enjoys stunning views of Weardale from all windows. The cottage retains its oak beams to all downstairs rooms and has been furnished and decorated in a traditional style but has been sympathetically modernised to provide a warm and welcoming place to stay in any and all weathers. The cottage is compact and is the ideal rural retreat for couples and small families, offering a sitting room and a kitchen with dining area to the ground floor, a master bedroom with double bed, a second bedroom with twin beds and a family bathroom to the first floor. Daddry Shield is in the North Pennines area of outstanding natural beauty and is happily situated on the Weardale Way. The river Wear is just 250 yards from the front door offering wild swimming in its calmer pools while the Weardale Ski Club is to be found within walking distance in the hills above the hamlet. There is a bus stop just outside number 7 and a regular bus service runs the length of the dale for walkers and cyclists. For railway enthusiasts the Weardale Railway runs between Stanhope and Bishop Aukland and includes the Polar Express experience in the winter months. The traditional dales towns of Wolsingham, Frosterley and Stanhope are all within a short drive of Daddry Shield while the villages of St Johns Chapel and Westgate are a scant mile away to the east and west, each village offering a shop and pub. The cities of Durham and Newcastle, the Beamish Museum, Northumberlandia and many other attractions are within easy driving distance. The cottage has an open fire and a supply of fuel is provided as are linen and towels.
