Anchorsand | Once the grand Georgian home of one of Whitby's fishing fleet captains, this handsome stone built mansion has recently been converted into luxuriously appointed apartments. Designed to a very high specification and boasting smart, contemporary interiors, they still retain the elegance of their past heritage. Enjoying an elevated position, which allowed the sea captain to watch for his ships returning to harbour, Mariner's House today offers visitors a peaceful haven above Whitby's ever bustling activity. These lovely apartments, set over three floors with an easy, wide Georgian staircase, lie just 100 yards from Whitby's lively shopping streets and 300 yards from the harbour of this immensely popular seaside town – voted England's most attractive in 2006. An absolute delight to explore, Whitby boasts picturesque fishing wharfs and quaint, narrow cobbled streets lined with shops selling beautifully crafted Whitby jet, antiques and books, as well as tea rooms and renowned seafood restaurants and a plethora of excellent fish and chip shops. Attractions to suit all ages and tastes abound – one museum commemorates Captain Cook, another the mythical Dracula experience! Fishing trips can be arranged and of course there are all the traditional amusements of the seaside including a lovely sandy beach.
