Dating Amber
Love is a many splendored yet painfully complicated thing in writer-director David Freyne's youthful romantic comedy. Normal People star Fionn O'Shea plays nice guy Eddie, who is tired of his classmates speculating about his sexuality. Fearful of how his parents (Sharon Horgan, Barry Ward) will react when they learn he is gay, Eddie forges a pact with fellow misfit Amber (Lola Pettigrew) to publicly date to stop the gossip mongers. It's a relationship of mutual convenience - like Eddie, Amber is gay and hopes to use their burgeoning 'romance' as a cover to explore her sexuality. Standing side by side, Eddie and Amber embark on parallel journeys of self-discovery that help them to embrace their identities and face their fears.
