Only Cloud Knows
Chinese director Feng Xiaogang paints a bittersweet portrait of a marriage in this gently paced romantic drama written by Ziang Ling. Widower Sui Dongfeng (Huang Xuan) clasps the ashes of his late wife Luo Yun (Yang Caiyu) as he embarks on a whale-watching tour in Auckland, where they first met. During the excursion, Dongfeng reminisces with the captain about his spouse, recalling the small details of domestic life in an apartment they rented from Chinese ex-pat Mrs Lam (Xu Fan). As memories deepen to take in happy times at the couple's Chinese restaurant, Yun's Chopsticks, and the support of mutual friend Melinda (Lydia Peckham), Dongfeng questions how well he knew his wife through the fog of his grief.
