Never Look Away (Werk ohne Autor)
As a boy, Kurt Barnert (Tom Schilling) is deeply affected by his free-spirited aunt Elisabeth (Saskia Rosendahl), who encourages him to "never look away" from the beauty in life including her own naked body. Her behaviour causes concern and Elisabeth is taken to the Dresden women's clinic where SS doctor Carl Seeband (Sebastian Koch) signs the order for her forced sterilisation. The medic is subsequently arrested but he curries favour with a Russian officer after the war, who agrees to conceal Carl's involvement with the Nazis. Meanwhile, Kurt pursues his creative streak at Dresden art school, where he falls under the spell of a fashion design student called Ellie (Paula Beer). She possesses the same lust for life as his late aunt. Romance blossoms until a dark secret threatens to tear the young lovers apart.
