Rory's Way
An ageing Scotsman gets a second chance at life far from his home on a Hebridean island in Oded Binnun and Mihal Brezis's drama based on the Spanish novel The Etruscan Smile by Jose Luis Sampedro. Rory MacNeil (Brian Cox) receives a devastating medical prognosis that will mean he might not outlive a member of a rival clan. Determined to honour his ancestors, Rory travels to San Francisco for medical treatment that should brighten his outlook. He reunites awkwardly with his estranged son, Ian (JJ Feild), a chemistry graduate who has applied science to become a celebrated molecular sous chef. Ian's wife Emily (Thora Birch) is more welcoming and she is grateful when Rory takes an interest in his grandson Jamie and offers to take care of the child.
