Pick of the Litter
Documentary filmmakers Dana Nachman and Don Hardy follow the heart-warming story of a litter of puppies on a journey to become service dogs for the visual impaired. The subjects are five Labrador puppies christened Patriot, Phil, Potomac, Poppet and Primrose, who are bred in California and undergo a rigorous training regime with Guide Dogs For The Blind. Less than half of the puppies enrolled in the scheme will be successful so the pressure is on for the playful siblings to perform for their handlers. The film follows the dogs and their human counterparts over the course of two turbulent years when the puppies must learn to protect their blind partners from harm and perform potentially life-saving actions.
