Out of Blue
Celebrated Stockport-born writer-director Carol Morley adapts Martin Amis's 1997 novel Night Train as a slow-burning crime thriller headlined by Oscar nominee Patricia Clarkson. The body of astrophysicist Jennifer Rockwell (Mamie Gummer) is discovered at the observatory where she worked. Her powerful family led by Colonel Tom Rockwell (James Caan) and his wife Miriam (Jacki Weaver) demand a speedy resolution to the police investigation and detective Mike Hoolihan (Clarkson) is assigned to the case. Mike is a recovering alcoholic who has little memory of her life before she joined the police force. Her sole focus is unmasking Jennifer's killer and bringing them to justice. As the case gathers momentum, Mike's quest for answers puts her at odds with some of her colleagues. The hunt for a perpetrator sparks questions about her lost memories and the sins of a forgotten past.
