Polina, danser sa vie

Anton (Miglen Mirtchev) and his wife Natalia (Kseniya Kutepova) are desperate for their young daughter Polina (Veronika Zhovnytska) to escape the harsh reality of life in Russia in the shadow of nuclear power plants. The girl is a gifted dancer and she gains admission to a prestigious school, where choreographer Bojinski (Aleksey Guskov) singles out Polina for harsh criticism because he can see her raw potential and wants the child to push herself to the physical limit. Polina responds to his demands and blossoms into a young woman (now played by Anastasia Shevtsova), who yearns to break free and express herself through movement. She is accepted into the Bolshoi Academy but Polina jeopardises everything to embark on a passionate affair with handsome French classmate Adrien (Niels Schneider). He whisks her away to his homeland where Liria (Juliette Binoche), a teacher at a modern-dance school, helps Polina to see beyond her rigid classical training.
