Luckless writer William (Aneurin Barnard) has attempted to take his own life nine times and his latest effort - a leap off a bridge to a watery grave - failed because a pleasure boat happened to pass and break his fall. Feeling sorry for himself, William contacts a veteran assassin called Leslie (Tom Wilkinson), who promises to put a bullet through the young man's head in the next week for just £2000. The date and time of the kill will be a complete surprise and William should go about his day-to-day business, comforted in the knowledge that his passing will be quick and painless. Shortly after he signs the contract with Leslie, William is contacted by publishing assistant Ellie (Freya Mavor), who believes his gloom-laden manuscript shows promise. William begs Leslie to postpone their deal but the assassin has a quota to fill on behalf of his no-nonsense boss Harvey (Christopher Eccleston).
