Teenager Eli Solinski (Myles Truitt) lives with his adopted father Hal (Dennis Quaid) in Detroit along with Hal's biological son Jimmy (Jack Reynor), who has returned home after six years behind bars. The older men grate on each other's nerves and Eli is a silent witness to escalating hostility. During one of his forays away from home, Eli stumbles upon a futuristic weapon, which is laden with jaw-dropping functions. The boy sneaks his prized find back home, unaware that the gun's time-travelling owners want their weapon back. It transpires that while he was in prison, Jimmy racked up significant protection money debts to local crime boss Taylor Balik (James Franco) and now the hard man wants full repayment. Jimmy foolishly believes that the best solution is to rob the safe at the construction firm where Hal works. The robbery is botched and Jimmy goes on the run with Eli and the lad's supercharged gun in a sci-fi thriller directed by Jonathan and Josh Baker.
