Summer 1993 (Estiu 1993)
Writer-director Carla Simon's biographical drama is a touching coming-of-age story seen through the eyes of an orphaned girl, who is sent to live with relatives in the mountains. The year is 1993 and six-year-old Frida (Laia Artigas) is suddenly transplanted to the home of her paternal uncle Esteve (David Verdaguer), his wife Marga (Bruna Cusi) and their cute daughter Anna (Paula Robles). Frida's parents have both died but the family is oddly reluctant to discuss the details of the passing with inquisitive Frida. Frustrated by this wall of silence, little Frida channels her inner turmoil at innocent and helpless Anna. Meanwhile, Frida's grandmother Maria (Isabel Rocatti) shares her religious fervour and the little girl adopts a statue of the Virgin Mary as her confidante.
